The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
The unanimous judgment was delivered on Wednesday by Justice Paul Galinje.
He held that the reliefs sought by the appellant do not fall within the ambit of the schedule of the electoral act and that prayers sort before the court in an election matter are jurisdictional and must fall within the reliefs allowed by the law in section 138 of the electoral act.
In a related development the Supreme Court also upheld the election of the Governor of Kaduna State, Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
It will be recalled that the court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna had in November dismissed appeal by Isah Mohammed Ashiru the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, opposing the verdict of the election petition tribunal which upheld the victory of El-Rufai at the 2019 Governorship election in the state.
The court had ruled that El-Rufai was duly re-elected as Governor of Kaduna State.
